Civic CenterThe Greater Hood
The Civic Center contains several of San Francisco's largest government and cultural institutions and is designated a National Historic Landmark. Each year, the Civic Center is home to festivals, parades, art exhibits and installations, rallies and protests along with daily government functions. Historically, some important events took place here as well. The United Nations Charter (the foundational treaty of the United Nations, signed in 1945) and the Treaty of San Francisco (the peace treaty, signed in 1951, officially ending the Pacific War with the Empire of Japan) were both signed here, which is why we chose a dove to represent this significant area of the city.
